Brockholes Preston - Pre Wedding Session

I had such a fun time photographing Nicola & Kaz, on their pre-wedding shoot at Brockholes Nature Reserve in Preston.

Yesterday I met with the awesome Nicola & Kaz, who's wedding I'm documenting in a few weeks, at The Villa, Wrea Green, near Lytham, St Annes. Nicola & Kaz don't see each other too often due to their career circumstances, but they make sure they spend their time well when they do get the chance to catch up!x

Nature Themed Photo Shoot

Nicola & Kaz decided to choose Brockholes Nature Reserve in Preston for their session. We started by walking along the nature trails, taking some fun and natural photos. Eventually we made our way down to overlook the beautiful River Ribble, which made for a stunning backdrop for the relaxed photos we captured. We finished off by heading across to the lake, whilst passing plenty of wildlife along the way. We captured some romantic images on the jetty, which overlooks the Brockholes lake.

Preston Engagement Photography

I love meeting again with each of my couples before the wedding day. The pre wedding sessions really help to get any nerves or awkwardness out of the way, and for the couple to just feel themselves in front of the camera on their special wedding day. I really enjoy creating meaningful relationships with each couple, as this ensures the photographs are authentic to the couple and their relationship together. See some more examples of my pre-wedding work on my Capture You page.

30 Days of Wedding Photography | Day 4 | Bridesmaids

"It's not what we have in our life, but who we have in our lives that matters."

Bridesmaids!

I overheard someone once describe bridesmaids as human glitter balls that the bride has by her side, sparkling all day. How cool?

Being a bridesmaid is an important job. In a world where friendship knows no bounds thanks to the digital age, picking your bridesmaids is a huge task! You're there for every moment of planning, hen partying and the wedding day itself.

The squad you select share and revel in your day as much as you. They're as excited, as giddy and can't wait firstly for the hen party and then secondly for the wedding - especially the party!

Being a bridesmaid is a chance to come together and look sensational, as one strong team, bound by friendship, at the side of the bride for the day.

As a photographer, I hear some true revelations that have me in stitches and make me feel like I'm one of the girls whether I like it or not! Especially on the morning of the wedding when the fizz is flowing and the girls are giddy. Their energy, fun, quirks and private jokes are exciting to be around and there are always hilarious moments.

From getting ready in the morning, to guiding their bestie down the aisle, the toasts to their beauty, the bouquet tossing and then the crazy dancing - you can guarantee the bridesmaids will keep the smiles, laughter and moves going all night long.

So here's to all those beautiful bridesmaids I've had the honour of photographing.

30 Days of Wedding Photography | Day 1 | Capture You Sessions

For the next thirty days I will share with you some of my favourite wedding images, captured over the last year and grouped into daily themes.

It is such a privilege being a part of someone's wedding day and I am always proud of the moments of pure joy, love and happiness that I'm able to capture.

So it's July, it's wedding silly season and it's really easy to get super busy as a photographer and stop sharing all your hard work on social media.

I really didn't want to do that this year and so with a friend, we have challenged one another to post every day in July. I will therefore share with you a selection of wedding images every day over the next month.

I've been shooting weddings for the last seven years, and working full time as a wedding photographer for the last four years.

If I went that far back in the archives, you'd be here forever looking at the images as there would be too many amazing moments to choose from! So I've decided to go with a wedding theme each day and will showcase images from the last twelve months.

If you're reading this and were one of my many couples in the last year, thank you again for allowing me the privilege of shooting your special day.

Day 1 | Capture You Shoots

Many of the couples who employ me as their professional wedding photographer feel really nervous at the thought of being in front of the camera on their wedding day.

Each Tuesday I meet couples for coffee to talk through their wedding plans and 90% of the time the same fears crop up;

"I hate my smile."

"I hate having my photo taken."

"I hate feeling awkward in front of the camera."

"We're not very photogenic."

"We just like the natural shots where you're not looking."

Honestly, these same phrases crop up and I have the same answer each time.

If you are comfortable with the people around you, then you don't need to act in any way for the camera. Your natural personality and beauty will shine through. The emotion; love, happiness, laughter will be captured. If you are comfortable with the people around you, then you will be amazed at the images I can capture.

If you are comfortable with the people around you, then you will be amazed at the images I can capture.

It's the very reason I encourage each of my couples to opt for a Capture You shoot before their big wedding day. Sometimes known as an engagement photoshoot or pre-wedding photoshoot I have moved away from this language and prefer to just describe it as an afternoon where we capture the real you.

We meet up and treat it like a chat. We walk and talk, about the wedding and everything in between. We build rapport, we talk through the wedding day and how you envisage it to look and feel and then, only then, when you feel comfortable you can watch me blend into the background and truly capture you; your love for one another, your bond, your anticipation and your excitement.

You get to know me and how I work. You trust that I will do you proud on your wedding day. I get to know you too and what you like and don't like. It's a great morning or afternoon together and many people opt to bring the kids, or the dog or even a horse once! (True story).

By the time the wedding day comes around, we're good friends and you're totally at ease and comfortable with me. Remember what I said above? If you're comfortable with the people around you, your natural beauty and personality will shine through. I promise.

"OMG WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM!!!!! What a star you are Matt can't wait for you to photograph and share our special day thank you so unbelievably much"

Wedding Photography in the North West and Beyond

If you're looking to speak to a wedding photographer about your own wedding plans, I set aside Tuesday daytime and evenings to meet couples just like you. I'll take you for posh coffee somewhere in the North West (usually Preston or Kirkham) and you get a chance to quiz me about all things weddings, and I get a chance to quiz you about how you envisage your dream day.
